John E. Kozel L.Ac., MAcOM
I am very pleased to return to the east coast after living in Portland, OR for 12 years. After completing my education in Acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 2017, I saw patients in my private acupuncture and herbal medicine practice in Northeast Portland from 2019 to 2025. A great deal of my former practice was in the treatment of pain due to injury, chronic or habitual imbalances in body mechanics, and the normal wear and tear of joints as we age - particularly of the low back, neck, knees, and jaw (TMD). I also have a great deal of experience in the treatment of pain and numbness due to nerve compression, such as is experienced with sciatica.
In treatments I engage the body using physical techniques such as deep pressure, cupping (and other body work tools), and assisted movement, which allows me to form an impression of how your body is moving and functioning. I use acupuncture directly to ease tension in muscles and tendons, relieve pressure within tight joints, and to affect layers of your body that may not be easily reached using massage and other external treatments. Through this process the mind can be assisted in forming a more immediate and direct connection with individual parts of the body, or the body as a whole. This can help to calm racing thoughts, create a sense of ease, and over time establish new patterns of movement and posture.
